I was reading the GIA.IGI site recently and it told of how many jewelers are using "substandard gold" and calling it 14k or 18k .

All I know is I have 2 rings from Helzberg....both have less than 2 year old settings. They are kept in safes and are NEVER worn .but the settings are falling apart............................ you decide.....

Oh and...I di call the coprorate office...repeatidly....they could care less.....NO offer to replace setting.....or..new product or store credit..nothing..And their retail locations ....well......they would not know one product from another. These associates need training and licensing to be experts in their area. Other retailers have told me these rings are virtually valueless....

Location: Elmhurst, Illinois

well heres one for ya...my fiance bought me a ring from there and i had to get it sized and ended up waiting two weeks longer than the date they originally gave me. fine.

when i did finally get it, within 4 months, 5 diamonds fell out. i got the warranty so i took it in within the 6 month time frame. and they fixed it for me. which meant i had to wait AGAIN.

oh, and it wasnt stamped so i specifically asked to have it stamped. ive had it for not even two weeks now, and a diamond has already fallen out...again. AND they didn't stamp it. this place is a joke.

the lady told me "the stamp wears off"...uh, i dont fricken think so lady.

and i work as an overnight cashier at the slowest circle k in az, its not like im doing construction with my hands wearing my ring. theres nooo excuse for this.

Don' t people realize that almost all gold is plated with mainly rhodium? Especially light colored gold?

It has to be taken in and redipped from time to time over its life. GOLD IS SOFT people. Sub-Standard? Hilarious!

Good grief. There should be more attacks on Zales, Kay's, Rogers, BlueNile and even Jared etc.

Are you delusional?! ONLY White Gold is plated with Rhodium to get that really white look.

Depending on how microscopically thin the electroplating is, and how much it is worn and cleaned, a Rhodium finish may only last 6 mo. to 2 yrs. I think the biggest issue is that people AREN'T TOLD THIS.... So, yes, this sort of sales practice IS SUB-STANDARD!

ANY Jewelers that have "Fine Print" that is NOT DISCLOSED to a customer without prompting, concerning issues that may arise when wearing the purchased item(s), is WORSE than sub-standard!

I have a 5 Diamond Journey pendant in 14k white gold(STAMPED 14K and HDS), that was purchased AS SOLID GOLD at Helzberg Diamonds, but is ODDLY ATTRACTED TO MAGNETS! So as far as I can tell, they are a particularly UNSCRUPULOUS Jewelry store AT BEST, and very likely CRIMINAL in their actions.

It is AGAINST THE LAW to sell anything as solid 14K Gold, have it stamped 14K Gold, and have it NOT BE 14K Gold.

I agree that it should be checked, but unless it's been taken in every six months then the warranty is valueless. Lots of people are to lazy to do the maintenance and then pissed because the store says not our problem.

I've worked in many jewelry stores and have come across this time and time again. I've bought fake jewelry from stores that " can NOT fall apart on its own, let alone in a vault! This is ridiculous, I think I'd be angrier at the place where the jewelry was stored. Sounds like someone has messed with your s>#t.

Why would any normal person not wear their jewelry anyway?

Divorce perhaps, and now you want compensated? Lol

A ring can not break on it's own in a safe! Unless it's possessed.

I recommend that you take it to a Helzberg store to have it checked and see what's needs to be done. Its a AGS certified company therefore they hold the highest standards.

Helzberg is accredited by AGS. Why didn't you buy the warranty with your ring?

You would of has lifetime/unlimited repair services. All metals used for jewelry break down with time. 18k more than 14k, obviously platinum last long time.

GIA and AGS are equal in reputation.

I'd believe it if we were talking about Zales, or another non credited jewelry store.
